I'm not sure about winter train trips but cosily rattling through Europe on our autumn old people's inter rail passes (for anyone over 60!) was just wonderful and I would highly recommend

I had the Bonne Maman calendar 2 years ago and was fairly underwhelmed by the jams - all perfectly nice, but whenever there was an interesting touch like orange flower water it was entirely absent. That being said, I've bought it again this year because I really like the jars!

The Christmas fashion articles have me really cranky. "What to wear to trim the tree?" - probably pyjamas, possibly with spilt porridge down my front, because trimming the tree is not a social activity!

We are a bit underwhelmed too.

Will bought me the BM calendar a couple of years ago - I loved it! But still haven’t worked out what to do with the teeny jars… too cute to chuck, too small for anything really useful. So they just rattle around in the kitchen table drawer every time I open it 🙄 Big love to all of you, have a wonderful Christmas xx

I use them for beads when I am making jewellery. An enterprising soul on bluesky says he grows marijuana and uses them for little gifts for his best clients.

I might go for pins and nuts and bobs. Good idea.

We saw one in a v posh jam shop in Paris last year and then said to Lucy who used to test food Advent calendars at work, and she said, Oh, Bonne Maman do one.

But she’d never brought that one home. Still quite fancy the Parisian one, one day. And I have no idea what to do with the empty jars either

I have some mini jars (not the 24 of a Jam Advent calendar.) I use them for salt, pepper, dollops of sauces on picnics. Also useful for storing things in the fridge, such as too much crushed garlic! And yay for Gold Leaf, I have decorated chocolate cake and brownies with it. Works extremely well for birthdays with gold coloured candles. When Lottie was 12 her friends were incredibly impressed that they were eating real gold! Very tempted to go to Paris for the grand jam Advent calendar and Notre Dame of course!

But we bought some jam and it wasn’t that brilliant. P said mine was better.

Will keep my jars for reasons you’ve suggested and see if I use them.
