I’ve just made the blood orange cake. Icing is drying now. I’ll let you know what it’s like. Skye McAlpine books are not my favourite and I haven’t got any although I do like looking at all the pictures.
I'd like to make the blood orange cake before they go out of season here. I've been eyeing the Skye McAlpine book but feel a bit intimidated like I might need to wear a Venetian silk dress with puffy sleeves and look beautiful before going into my (sloppy) kitchen just to keep up with the atmosphere of it.
Your comments on Eastbourne made me laugh, I have never been. However I have made Ottalenghi's lamb meatballs with fregola and feta. Completely delicious, highly recommend!
Angie, my advice would be, don’t go. See reply to Jen. Stick to the South Downs eg Charleston, Lewes, Firle etc. Meatballs are for dinner tonight so am excited now
I really enjoyed reading this, Kate. Such a great pace and made me laugh.
My aunt and uncle have place in Eastbourne and I haven't me them there again since a visit 4-5 years ago where I couldn't find a single restaurant I wanted to eat at after searching online. I also heard it's improved though. Maybe I'll go!
Are we surprised re Giles? Hmmm. I have to say that they must surely consider the actual meal as part of their compensation so it makes sense to want to go to as many pricey ones as possible on other people's dime!
My parents retired to Eastbourne and my mother was there for nearly thirty years so I know it well. I love the South Downs and went to Sussex University but now get twitchy if we go anywhere past Alfriston.
No, not surprised about Giles at all and always grateful he introduced me to the Bell at Langford where we were three weeks ago and the Lamb at Shipton under Wychwood. But not into Mayfair restaurants
